TOBA MIKA Profile

TOBA MIKA  Katazome Painting Artist
Graduated from Kyoto City University of Arts (M.A.). She has developed new style of painting by utilizing Katazome, the traditional dyeing method of Japan. Produced a series of large scale paintings depicting Vietnamese sceneries since her first visit to Vietnam in 1994, and got critical acclaim, and was awarded “Cultural Testimonial Award” from the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. In Japan, she has received 19 awards including “Urban Culture Incentive Award” and “Kyoto Arts New Artist Award”. In 2012, she received Foreign Minister’s Award for her contribution to promote friendship between Japan and Vietnam through her art work and cultural activities.

2001--The Exhibition in Hanoi bringing together paintings of Vietnamese changing scenery.
2003--Toba Mika Exhibition to honor 30th Anniversary of Japan-Vietnam Diplomatic Relations (National Museum of Art in Hanoi/ Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Museum),
2005--Toba Mika Exhibition “Playing Eternal Music of Heart” (Royal Palace in the old city of Hue)
2010--Toba Mika Exhibition-Nara and Hanoi bound together with Katazome in commemoration of 1300th Anniversary of Nara Heijo-kyo Capital and 1000th Anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi (Yakusiji Temple in Nara/The Temple of Literature in Hanoi and Vietnam National Museum of Art),
2013--“Sceneries remained” Exhibition in honor of the 40th Anniversary of Japan-Vietnam the diplomatic relations (Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Museum )
2014—Special Exhibition at Kyoto Kenninji Zen Temple (dedicated 16 Fusuma-painting for Small Study Room of Kenninji Temple, and currently, producing another 36 Fusuma paintings for Large Study Room of Kenninji Temple)
2017--Special Exhibition commemorating 29th APEC Summit (Museum of Sculpture in Da Nang) (10/20-11/12).
